In general, note taking is all about capturing the key points by jotting them down in bullet points. Initially, I didn't realize the benefit of taking notes. Unless the teacher reminded us, I rarely took notes during high school. After school, I would simply prioritize on completing homework over reviewing what we had taught, resulting in forgetting everything by the next class. However, now after understanding the significance of taking notes, I have realized that practice is essential. Note-taking helps in enhancing memory, active participation, effective communication and the development of critical thinking skills. Moreover, it is much easier to refer back to our notes instead of having to read the whole passage again. I have come to realize that taking notes is actually a great quality to have. So now, I'm planning to start taking notes regularly.
During high school, I used to rely on the traditional method of note-taking because I had been using it for a long time. But I found it very difficult to find specific information later and it was so time consuming. Whereby, instead of reading from my notes I would end up reading the whole passage again. It was so frustrating. Therefore, among the different methods of note-taking, I personally found mind mapping to be the most effective. It really helps us to see the connections between ideas and concepts more clearly. Using diagrams like web or tree diagram makes it easier to remember everything. We got introduced to this new platform called slido. It was my first time hearing about it. When I first heard the word "slido", I thought it was just a random word. But then I found it's actually an amazing platform that can keep students engaged.
Moreover, plagiarism is definitely wrong because we are basically copying someone else's work without giving them credit. I used to do the same thing in school, just copying essays from Google. But now that I know about plagiarism, I realize that it is wrong. It is important to write in our own words and ideas to improve our writing skills and actually gain knowledge. The most important lesson I learned was about the listening and speaking. We are not perfect, so sometimes we need to rely on others. In the past, I used to keep my problems to myself and never asked for help. But now I became aware that it is important to ask for help when needed. On the other hand, I'm pretty good at giving advice to others.
When I first stayed at the boarder school, I struggled with managing my time. I never consulted anyone and ended up being late sometimes. But then, I decided to talk to the school counselor about it. He gave me some really helpful tips and ways to overcome this challenge. After listening to him, I felt so much more relaxed and comfortable. After a week, I adapted to the environment and improved a lot in time management. Therefore, it is important for everyone to feel free to ask for help and also offer advice. By seeking help and giving advice, we can all become better individuals. It is two-way street of learning and growth.
